Affiliate Disclosure — Dispute It Right

Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: July 2026

This page exists so you know exactly where our financial interests lie. It explains how the links on our site and in our emails work, when we get paid, and the one place where our incentives and your interests don't perfectly line up.

Affiliate links

Some of the links on our pages and in our emails are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up or make a purchase, we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same whether or not you use our link.

Affiliate links are marked where they appear, and any page presenting an affiliate offer carries a disclosure next to the offer itself rather than only here. Our recommendations reflect our own opinion, are not a guarantee of any result, and a paid relationship exists on anything presented as an affiliate offer.

The conflict we'd rather you saw than discovered

Read this part

The guide you bought says, repeatedly, that disputing credit report errors is free at all three bureaus, and it warns you about paying a company every month for work you can do yourself in an afternoon.

After purchase, we may show you a credit repair service — and we earn a commission if you sign up. Those two things sit uneasily together, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

Here is our actual position. Some people finish the audit, count nineteen items across three reports, look at the certified-mail runs, and decide they'd rather pay someone. That's a legitimate choice. If someone is going to make it, we'd rather point them toward a long-established company than leave them to find one of the many bad ones. But a commission is a real incentive, and you should assume it makes us more enthusiastic than a neutral party would be.

The honest order of options, which a commission does not change:

  1. Do it yourself with the guide. Free beyond postage. This is what you paid us for, and for most people it is enough.
  2. Nonprofit credit counselling. Free or low-cost through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (nfcc.org, 800-388-2227). We earn nothing from this and recommend it anyway.
  3. An FCRA attorney, if a documented inaccuracy survived two proper disputes. Many work on contingency because the statute shifts fees to the defendant (consumeradvocates.org). We earn nothing from this either.
  4. A paid credit repair service, last. This is the only rung we may be compensated on. Draw your own conclusions about why it's the only one we'd have a reason to move up the list.

Third-party services we recommend

Services we may recommend — including credit repair companies, credit monitoring, and similar providers — are operated, delivered, and supported entirely by independent third parties, not by us. Sign-up, billing, cancellation, service quality, refunds, guarantees, and customer support are handled directly by that provider and are separate from your purchase of Dispute It Right.

We do not control their pricing, their claims, or their compliance with applicable law — including the Credit Repair Organizations Act, which governs companies that perform credit repair for consumers. Before you sign up with any such company, read their contract, confirm your cancellation rights, and understand that no lawful service can remove accurate information from a credit report.

What we never do

  • Sell, rent, or pass your personal information to any company we recommend
  • Receive credit reports, scores, account data, or financial records back from them
  • Dispute, negotiate, or communicate with any bureau, creditor, or collector on your behalf
  • Suppress a negative opinion about a partner because we're paid by them
  • Present a paid recommendation without disclosing that it's paid

If you click through to a partner, you leave our site and your relationship with them is governed by their own terms and privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy for what we do and don't collect.
